The corn will hold a central place in tomorrows agriculture
It is one of the rare annual plants in C4 which has the exceptional capacity to re-use the carbon assimilated in the process of breathing, and to store it in the crop waste producing from 10 to 15 tones/ha. This contributes to reduce the atmospheric content of CO2, the principal cause of the greenhouse effect.
The strong evapotranspiration of corn it makes the largest natural "factory" of water purification.
Since the beginning of the cultivation of hybrid corn, the selection made it possible to gain 100 kilos per year.
In field crops the goal level of the 200 quintals it easily met. In smaller experimental fields it is possible to reach 250 quintals.
The corn has an enormous genetic potential. In high population density and in optimum conditions, the traditional selection will make it possible to reach 300 quintals /Ha.
Corn is already the principal component of animal rations and a principal source of energy. In corn, the majority of the available energy is in starch and oil. The oil contains 2,25 times more energy than starch. Compared to conventional varieties, the PANAM selections high in oil allow an increase in metabolic energy.
Our South American origin: an opening on alternatives agricultural practices
The presence of Panam in South American enables us to look at the agricultural world in a different glance.
Our idea is simple:
To offer and develop in France and Europe innovating concepts largely used in South American agriculture. To think about the interests and integration of those in our current and future agricultural context.
Several concepts seem to suggest simple, profitable, and transposable alternatives, to our agriculture:
